My sister and I decided this year we would plan a trip to Bali, Indonesia. It was absolutely incredible. The people are incredibly friendly – the friendliest bunch I’ve ever met! The hotels were out of this world, the Spas are SO relaxing and the food was delicious.
First, we decided to stay in Seminyak for a few days and to conquer our jet lag on the beach. The sunsets at Sunset Beach are amazing every single evening. The food and drinks served at La Plancha are incredible and the owners dogs are so cute and a bonus for those missing their pups at home (we missed Darcie instantly).
Whilst in Seminyak we decided to visit Tanah Lot with a very friendly taxi driver, he took us there for sunset – which was amazing! He also bought us some rice cakes (I think?!) – which were surprisingly tasty. We were given good luck by drinking the Holy Water at the temple and had rice stuck to our foreheads, this was rather special – the staff at the hotel were quite taken aback by how stuck into the culture we had gotten. Tanah Lot is is definitely a main place to visit but it is SO busy.
We also visit Potato Head (must do!), the W hotel for dinner and Sea circus for lunch.
We then headed North to Ubud – our favourite place during the trip. I had chosen a Spa hotel in the centre of Ubud called Alaya Hotels Ubud. It was incredible, Gusti was a fab host for us and the food at the Pelangi restaurant was amazing (!!!). I was overjoyed to be provided with constant supply of crackers too.
We took a half day trip to the Elephant Cave, Waterfalls, Coffee Plantations and silver Jewellery makers. I think this was our favourite day of the trip as we covered such a big area and saw so much.
The Monkey Forest was the scariest experience of the trip – most likely because we didn’t manage to get the rabies jab before we came to Bali. One monkey managed to get in Aimee’s bag and nearly had a hold of her phone, I have the photo of her reaction but she’d never talk to me again if I posted that on the blog. The art market is a real eye opener in Ubud, lots of unique gifts to buy and lots of haggling – our tip: always haggle 30% off! It works!
The Four Seasons is in Ubud and we decided to eat at the Riverside Cafe one evening – what a treat, it was the most beautiful evening and we were treated very well, including a golf buggy ride back to our taxi through the forest.
Jungle fish was great to visit too! It’s a pool bar in the forest and we had booked a bed for the day – lovely change to exploring on foot all day. We also went to the Bali Swings which was a exhilarating experience.
After galavanting around Ubud for 4 days, we got a fast boat over to Gili T – we have since realised it’s only a 10 minute boat ride from Lombok. I didn’t enjoy the fast boat one bit but we’re here to tell the tale and Gili T was an amazing place to visit.
We cycled the island, snorkelling at key turtle spotting areas on the way and stopping for refreshments every so often. It was amazing being able to ride along the beach and find quieter areas.
Canguu is a place to visit if you’re looking for Australian shops and a good surf. We stopped here for one night only as we had to change our plans to fit in the Sunny Side Up festival at Potato Head. The Airbnb was a very different experience to the hotels but well worth the stay for one night.
We then chilled in the L’Occitane partnered hotel – Kupa Kupa in Jimbaran for two nights with no pictures taken what so ever.
