Luxe-modern London wedding inspiration

The wedding that made me fall in love with London wedding photography (all over again!)

As a destination wedding photographer, I find myself dreaming about travelling pretty much constantly! Imagining myself with sand between my toes, the sun on my face and palm trees waving idly in the breeze.

Because familiarity is the nemesis of appreciation. And when you spend your whole life in London, it’s easy to take for granted just how awesome this city is. But the good news is, Jack and Bea’s luxe-modern London wedding snapped me right out of it! And reminded me all over again why I fell in love with London wedding photography in the first place.

For me, London is home. But for the rest of the world, it’s a dream destination. Historic yet modern, vast yet strangely intimate, constantly busy with the occasional pocket of blissful quiet. It’s the perfect city for a contemporary, sophisticated wedding. And if you’re looking for somewhere romantic and exciting to tie the knot, this luxe-modern wedding in Bloomsbury might just be the little push you need.

Good Enough College Wedding

Goodenough College wedding venue

Goodenough College in Bloomsbury is the perfect venue for a modern-luxe London wedding. Elegant, majestic, steeped in history and right in the city centre. Everything about it is just quintessentially London.

And it’s a London wedding photographer’s dream. At almost a century old, the venue has countless gorgeous backdrops for photos. With marble staircases, oak panelled rooms, wrought iron gates, chandeliers and a vast open courtyard. It’s a wedding photography playground!

But Jack and Bea took the venue’s stylish aesthetic one step further. With a man serving oysters during the drinks reception, and a harpist playing during the ceremony, they added so many little touches that took the venue to a whole new level of sophistication.

Luxe-modern wedding styling inspiration

Jack and Bea’s modern-luxe styling was perfect for a summer London wedding. And blended seamlessly with the traditional-contemporary aesthetic of Goodenough College.

The floristry by Blaise Flowers was phenomenal. With an emphasis on sustainability, Blaise creates beautiful bespoke floral creations for the modern London bride. And she knocked it out of the park for Jack and Bea! Seasonal blooms of white, pink and purple dahlias and roses added vibrant bursts of summer colour to their sleek styling.

The summer palette was continued with the long-stemmed blush pink candles and pink accents on the stationery and tablescapes. With more traditional venues like Goodenough College, it’s often tempting to play it safe with simple white roses and green foliage. But I’m so happy Jack and Bea chose to add these little pops of colour to their styling. Because it really brought the venue to life and made the day an exuberant celebration of love.

Bea looked simply stunning in Bella by Andrea Hawkes Bridal

With an elegant A-line structure and a contemporary clean-collared neckline, Bea looked the epitome of a sophisticated modern bride. She wore a low sleek bun to showcase the low back, button detailing and decolletage of the dress, opting for relaxed Hollywood waves for the evening.

Andrea Hawkes has so many beautiful, elegant, contemporary designs. And as they’re based in Islington, just a few miles away from the venue, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect dress designer for this modern London wedding.

The best thing about London wedding photography

While I take a relaxed, storytelling approach to your wedding photography, I have to admit I do love couples portraits! And not only because it gives me a chance to get some gorgeous editorial shots! But because it’s also the most intimate, romantic part of the day. Where you get to just have a few moments alone together to let your guard down and spend some time as a newly-married couple. And I always feel so privileged to be a part of it.

Just outside the college courtyard are the beautiful Mecklenburgh Square Gardens. Carefully landscaped and surprisingly quiet, Jack and Bea had their first few moments alone together there as husband and wife.

But the best thing about having a London wedding is, well, London! And there’s nothing I love more than roaming the city streets with my bride and groom! And as I was walking through the streets of Bloomsbury with Jack and Bea, surrounded on all sides by beautiful architecture glowing in the summer sun, I fell in love with London wedding photography all over again!
